Almost all MUHAS officess have internet connectivity giving the staff access to both intranet and internet services.
DICT ensures that all the incoming and outgoing Internet contents are regularly scanned for malicious codes such as viruses and hoaxes. There is an up-to-date firewall at both the application layer and transport / network layer for securing the email and internet users. Using appropriate technology the internet content is filtered to secure both users’ machines and information.
Wireless Fidelity (WiFi) Networks
Consequently the WiFi network enables our students to access the university online resources and the internet from the hotspots any time of the day. DICT website provides a page where staff and students can access information on how to configure their devices, acceptable use policy, and usage best practice tips of WiFi.
DICT maintains electronic mail services for both MUHAS staff and students. The email services plays a vital role in ensuring internal university communications, inter-University communications and other communications with the outside world. Mass communication to different groups of both staff and students is enable through mailling lists.
DICT encourages all staff and students to make use of the MUHAS corporate email services as
- It is an official identification for MUHAS staff and student.
- It gives you the ability to access locvally sent emails even when internet connectivity is compromised.
- Corporate email address is more trusted than any other email address
DICT developed, hosted and maintains the corporate MUHAS website. The webmaster is the person in-charge for updating the website from time to time with current University wide news and events. Furthermore, DICT hosts websites for all the MUHAS schools, Directorates and Institutes. However, the corporate MUHAS website acts as the main gateway to these other websites.
The telephone section under the directorate of ICT oversee internal and external telecommunications of the Varsity. Currently we have state of the art telephone system with over 500 internal telephone extensions and 16 trunk lines. The system was installed in 2011.
