Chat with a Librarian - Live Reference Services

Live reference uses chat technology to have direct contact with a reference librarian. Instead of writing an email and waiting for a reply, you can type your question and get live support from an online librarian.  Get research assistance by using the following ways:

Information: Or by using an Instant Messaging (IM) with one of our Online Reference Librarians! We'll help you find the information you need. 

 
 
HOW DO I USE THE LIVE REFERENCE SERVICE?
  • We're available to answer your questions via IM during regular library working hours
  • If we are offline,Kindly, leave your name AND email address so that we can respond to your questions. 
  • You don't have to download any IM software or create an IM account, Kindly choose your nickname and type it at the "edit nickname" box and then  type your question and press enter.
  • Just wait for the Reference Librarian, and he/she will try to answer your question in the soonest possible time.

What type of queries can I ask on the Live Reference Service?

The Live Reference Service is mainly research related, common example queries we receive include:

  • How can I access journal articles?
  • What is the username and password of acertain database I want to access?
  • How doI access the library catalogue?
  • The Library doesn’t have a copy of a book I need – what can I do?
  • How do I access online books?
  • How do I book a discussion room in the Library?
